In modern times, when nearly anyone has the capability to claim being a photographer, finding one who can live up to the title can be challenging.
You need a photographer that understands the elements of photography; not someone who just claims this, then uses their iPhone settings to back themselves up.
Photography is an art, and to be able to create it well requires a person with proper training, expert knowledge, the right equipment, and the know-how for using said equipment.
With that in mind, one of the battles in the photography industry has been how to travel with large loads of expensive and heavy equipment.
Typically, a professional photographer needs to carry a lot of luggage – lenses, cameras, stands, and more, which does not make for a light load!
However, the compact digital camera is changing that. While it may not appear as traditionally photo session ready, these cameras have made leaps and bounds, and are quite competitive with their larger versions.
Here at PMAI our photographers have got traveling light with camera equipment down to a fine art.
Here’s our top tips for finding the compact camera for you!
The Right Piece of Equipment
Yes, props and outfits have their place in photos, but the equipment that captures the moment is what is most exciting to us.
There are a number of digital compact cameras out there, such as models by Sony, Olympus, Nikon, Pentax and Canon.
These small but mighty contraptions can boast many comparable features to the traditional cameras used in shoots.
Long range zooms, built in wi-fi, waterproofing, and more.
PMAI are ready to take on the world of photography whether you book for in-studio or out and about!
Why Not a Smartphone?
This is potentially one of the most common questions we get asked.
While we understand that the phones we all have with us all of the time are making leaps and bounds in picture capabilities, we feel that nothing beats a proper camera for the most amazing shoots.
As we are dedicated to producing the best photos for your session, we prefer to use cameras, whether it’s the full DSLR set up or the compact digital camera to capture an out-of-studio session.
What it comes down to is that a smartphone can be great for capturing memories in the moment (if there’s good lighting available), but they lack the shutter speed, aperture, and exposure customization provided by a dedicated camera – all things that are key to great photography!
For all of a smartphone’s settings and apps that can tweak photos and share them, we feel that a standalone camera just can’t be beat.
