Ramesh Raskar of MIT’s Media Lab to Keynote 6Sight Future of Imaging Conference
Visionary researcher and educator to speak on technology innovations that will reshape the imaging industry in coming years
JACKSON, Mich. – 6Sight Conferences LLC today announced that Ramesh Raskar, head of the Camera Culture research group and codirector of the Center for Future Storytelling, both at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab, will keynote the 6Sight® Future of Imaging Conference at the Monterey Conference Center, Monterey, Calif., Nov. 10-12, 2009. Raskar’s keynote continues the 6Sight tradition of introducing imaging visionaries to the business, investor, media, and analyst audiences that attend the conference to stimulate a discussion about the future of imaging and the business opportunities it holds. Raskar focuses on developing tools to help capture and share visual experiences. His research includes novel cameras with unusual optical elements and programmable illumination. His team is also creating a universal platform for the sharing and consumption of visual media. In 2004, Raskar received the TR100 Award from Technology Review, which recognizes top young innovators under the age of 35, and in 2003, the Global Indus Technovator Award, instituted at MIT to recognize the top 20 Indian technology innovators worldwide. In 2009, he was awarded a Sloan Research Fellowship and has received four Mitsubishi Electric Invention Awards. He holds 35 U.S. patents and is currently coauthoring a book on computational photography. “Ramesh is a technology visionary whose leading-edge, outside-the-box thinking is one of the key influences reshaping the future of imaging,” said Alexis Gerard, 6Sight cofounder and conference chair. “His ability to turn that vision into impactful inventions is evidenced by his breakthroughs at Mitsubishi Electric and his many patents. Ramesh is also at the forefront of developing new ways to incubate and bring to market imaging innovations through the entrepreneurial process. We are incredibly excited to have a superstar like him keynote this year’s 6Sight.” “I believe we’re on the cusp of significant technical and conceptual changes in how we view and practice imaging, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to share these thoughts and engage in a dialogue with the high-powered audience 6Sight is known for,” said Raskar. “The Media Lab has cooperated with Alexis since we contributed to the research for his groundbreaking book, ‘Going Visual.’ His 6Sight conference is the single most important venue for strategic thinkers from all parts of the imaging ecosystem to brainstorm what the future holds for them and forge the necessary personal and professional connections to make the most of that future.” Additional information about the 6Sight conference program and speakers is available at www.6sight.com.
