Add-on Revenue Sources for a Frameshop

After a grueling early winter and (hopefully) hectic holiday season this is a chance to depressurize and think about what can be added to your shop’s offerings to increase customer interest and further add to the bottom line. Three of our members: Pam Thomas of ArtPlaq will talk about plaqueing, Mike Labbe of Get The Picture Framing will talk about photo restoration, and Kris Thomas of Photo Quick of Waltham will talk about photo gifts to start the ball rolling. As usual, those in attendance are expected chime in with what has worked or is working for them.

As we enter this new year with its “not too hot” economic outlook we must think outside of the frame to find new sources of customer enticements. Some we can implement ourselves, others may require either assistance or cooperative ventures.

Dinner is $35 per member, $45 per non member

Adding a Classic French Touch with Gilded Accents
Speaker: Linda Wassell, MCPF

In this hands-on workshop, students will learn traditional and contemporary methods to create beautiful French style mats. We will work on two samples that can be used in their shops to enhance almost any kind of artwork. Students will learn drawing lines with ruling pens and create a variety of panels with watercolors and powdered pastels.

Some basic gilding techniques will be introduced that can be used to create a variety of matting enhancements such as gilded bevels and 23k gilded lines. Students will learn techniques that can be used in combination with traditional French matting designs or alone in designs that are more contemporary. The class will also include time for discussion of pricing and selling these embellishments.

Please RSVP by emailing kathleen@norcalarts.com AND bjgallery@bellsouth.net.  Class fee is only $40 per person and includes lunch.

PRINT and OPEN Competition judging will take place on Saturday, January 17 at The Great Frame Up in Carmichael, CA.  Entries must be dropped off no later than 3:00 pm.  PRINT Competition pieces are still available for purchase by contacting kathleen@norcalarts.com.
