Uniting educators who see the extraordinary in the ordinary, the Photo Imaging Education
Association (PIEA) inspires its members to become better teachers at every level of education. Together, PIEA
members are building an international network of knowledge and support to create resources, solve problems,
share ideas, and build stronger relationships within the photo industry.
The Sahara Hotel & Casino is this year's PIEA Official Hotel. PIEA attendees may book accommodations at the Sahara, or at one of the many other PMA 08 hotels available.

Conference Education
PIEA 2008 features four days of learning in educators workshops and tutorials that explore: color managment workflows,
mechanical time delay synchonization, using VIDEC to teach film-based photography, copyright issues,
preparing today's students for tomorrow's clients, and so much more.
A session/topic search is available. Pre-registration is recommended as sessions fill up quickly.

An Evening With an Artist: Frans Lanting
– Thursday, January 31 ■ 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Famed photographer Frans
Lanting will be this year's featured Evening with an Artist. As a frequent
contributor to National Geographic, Lanting's nature photography has been featured in books, magazines and
exhibitions around the world during his illustrious career. For more than two decades he has documented
wildlife and man’s relationship with nature from the Amazon to Antartica. Through his work he has increased
worldwide awareness of endangered species and environments around the globe. His most recent project,
Life: A Journey Through Time, is a book and multimedia production on the evolution of life on earth.
Copies of Life will be on sale following his presentation and Lanting will autograph
copies.

PIEA Photo Safari
– Wednesday, January 30 ■ 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
PIEA once again travels to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, which features
peaks over 8,000 feet high, huge cliffs and ravines, and wide plains home to Joshua trees and other desert
plants. Last time PIEA ventured into Red Rock, photographers were greeted by a small snow shower, which added
even more beauty to the park. Come join us to see what we’ll experience this year. The bus departs from the
Sahara Hotel & Casino at 7:00 a.m.

Portfolio Reviews, Print Swap and Poster
Presentations

Organized by Peter Glendinning, Michigan State University, and Janet Bonsall, University
of Central Missouri. Bring your portfolio to share and offer your critiques. A digital projector will be
available for those who bring portfolios on a CD. Contact Dr. Glendinning at glendinn@msu.edu if
you want to participate in the portfolio review or the print exchange. Those interested in presenting
academic posters should contact Dr. Bonsall at bonsall@ucmo.edu. Include Session E2 in when you
register.
PIEA Hands-On Computer Workshop: Working with
RAW Files
– Saturday, February 2 ■ 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Learn hands-on techniques for capturing and processing RAW files from Jack Reznicki, Canon Explorer of Light.
There will be two people to a workstation. Be sure to include Session E9 when you register.
