Las Vegas Basics
Las Vegas, commonly known as “The Entertainment Capital of the World,” is enjoyed by 37
million visitors each year. The most populous city in the state of Nevada, the city is a major convention,
vacation, shopping, and entertainment destination. With a little planning, your visit to the PMA 08
International Convention and Trade Show will be one of excitement.
Electricity
The United States uses 110 to 120 volts AC (60 cycles). If visiting from outside
North America, you may require an electrical adapter for any electronics or appliances you want to bring. Las
Vegas electrical outlets accept the standard North American plug with two flat parallel pins.

For police or medical assistance, call 911 (toll-free).
Tax
There is a 7.75 percent sales tax on purchases and a 9 percent tax on hotel rooms
in Las Vegas. (An additional 2 percent is added to the room tax for certain downtown properties adjacent to
and near the Freemont Street Experience).
Time Zone
Las Vegas is in the Pacific time zone (Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC) – 8 hours).
Weather
Las Vegas’ climate is marked with hot summers, mild winters, abundant sunshine
year-round and very little rainfall. In January and February, average temperatures range from lows of 37°F
(3°C) to highs of 63°F (17°C). Average precipitation is 0.69 inches (17.5 mm).
