The session attendees have chosen to come because they want to learn. Increased attendee
satisfaction increases evaluation ratings. Please keep these tips in mind when preparing and delivering your
presentation.
Preparation Tips
Refer to the promotional pieces to insure you are addressing the target
audience.
In your introduction gain attention of audience and establish rapport noting prior
experience and why you are qualified to speak on the subject.
Personalize. Each attendee will be asking “What’s In It For Me (WIIFM)?”
State your purpose and layout your agenda.
Each audience is made up of a variety of learners. Since all learners do not learn the
same, make use of a variety of methods to enhance learner retention by:
1. Using handouts and leaving space for note taking.
2. Using audio-visuals materials: PowerPoints, video, brochures etc.
3. Cite examples, use research findings or recommend other sources of information.
4. Making the information relevant to the target audience.
5. Add humor, comic clips, or quotations.
6. Meet, greet and/or involve the attendees.
7. Refrain from commercialism.
Carefully time your presentation to meet your allotted time frame.
Conclude on an upbeat note.
Rehearse your presentation.
Delivery Tips
• Check the equipment.
• Test microphone.
• Check the lighting if you are showing PowerPoints
• Establish eye contact.
• Watch your body language.
• Show enthusiasm!
• Be courteous and timely. Attendees have tight schedules at conventions.
Session Outline and Presentation Materials
In order to ensure the quality programming and well-coordinated sessions, we ask
each speaker submit an outline of your presentation followed later by a complete copy of the presentation.
This outline serves many purposes:
1. It provides a high quality well-organized program.
2. It gives the PMA Education and Publications departments advanced planning ideas for articles and session
coordination.
3. It is included in the Digital Replay (DIMA only).
4. Assists translators for accurate translation.
