Picture More Inspiration
Uniting those who see the extraordinary in the ordinary, the Photo Imaging Education Association (PIEA) inspires its members to become better teachers at every level of education. PIEA is an international network of educators and students creating resources, solving problems, sharing ideas, and building stronger relationships with the photo industry.
The Sahara Hotel & Casino is this year's PIEA Official Hotel. PIEA attendees may book accommodations at the Sahara, or at one of the many other PMA 09 hotels available. |

Conference Education
PIEA 2009 features four days of learning in student and educator workshops and tutorials that explore: value and sustainability in photo education, putting together cohesive multimedia portfolios, preparing students and teachers for business, using Adobe Lightroom, curriculum standards for photography, and so much more.
Presentations
The PMA 09 conferences are going paperless for session handouts, as part of our Green Partnership Initiatives. This means we will not be copying and distributing session handouts in breakout sessions.
Event Highlights
An Evening With an Artist: Jodi Cobb Tuesday, March 3 ■ 7:00 p.m.
Jodi Cobb has received national and international acclaim for her work – from her stories for National Geographic magazine, including “21st-Century Slaves,” “The Enigma of Beauty,” and “This Thing Called Love,” to her coverage of China when it first reopened to the West. She was the first photographer to document the hidden lives of the women of Saudi Arabia, and she was the first woman to be named the White House Photographer of the Year.
A world traveler (she had been around the world twice with her family by the time she was 12) and a storyteller for more than 20 years, she has photographed in more than 50 countries. Paperback copies of her book “Geisha: The Life, the Voices, the Art” will be available for purchase after her talk. Hardbound copies, which are currently out of print, will also be available.

PIEA Photo Safari – Monday, March 2 ■ 6:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. PIEA will conduct our second all-day Photo Safari, this time traveling to Zion National Park, just across the border in Utah. Zion is Utah’s first national park and consists of massive canyons, unique sandstone cliffs, ancient historical sites, and an amazing array of plant and animal species. The group will find plenty to photograph, from the narrow canyon walls of the Virgin River (bring a sturdy pair of waterproof hiking boots or shoes with ankle support if you plan to hike the river canyon) to a variety of trails ranging from easy to more difficult. The bus departs from the Sahara Hotel & Casino at 6:00 a.m. and returns to the Sahara by 9:30 p.m.
